Challenge
A well-respected children’s hospital in the United States (client) is known for improving the health and quality of life for children, young adults, and families with medically complex conditions. The organization wanted to use data from multiple information systems to provide the best care possible and continuously improve the patient experience. To do this, the client began a data management program across the continuum of care, from post-acute to home health. This program focused on developing
the technology frameworks, business processes, data management infrastructure, and governance structures to support business intelligence and analytics. The client’s data management program team had great institutional knowledge but could benefit from a deeper understanding of the elements required to make the program a success. The organization sought the help of CTG to review the existing strategy and plan the best path forward.
Solution
To help this client advance its data management strategy, CTG facilitated our complimentary three-hour, best-practice-based Enterprise Information Management (EIM) workshop. As a result of this workshop, the client evaluated current capabilities and identified three key areas where the health system would benefit from additional consulting.
CTG facilitated additional workshops for the client in these areas, which included developing an information blueprint, establishing data governance and selecting tools, and building a master data management (MDM)/data pipeline. Through these workshops, the data management program team reviewed the most appropriate tools and approaches and made crucial decisions on how to move ahead in their journey.
We also helped the client prioritize recommendations for the future, including operationalizing data governance; selecting the right technological approach to building a data pipeline; and implementing an analytic MDM solution. CTG worked with the client to create a high-level timeline, document findings and recommendations, and provide further knowledge on key topics such as data acquisition and metadata to advance the data program. Since our experience spans the entire data journey, from building a data program to performing daily data operations, we were able to work with the client to create transformative plans.
