Digital transformation in oil and gas is quickly becoming a business imperative as companies look to technology to help meet environmental performance goals.
However, many organizations in the sector still run business processes using paper or file-based systems, or siloed applications, making it difficult to conduct cross-reporting, find trends, or monitor performance relative to key metrics. That was the problem facing one environmental team charged with tracking leaks at an oil and gas company’s production facility. The team turned to CTG to design and implement a digital tracking solution and the processes and workflows to accompany it.
By combining extensive technical capabilities with domain expertise in the oil and gas sector, CTG transformed the way the company captured, stored, and used its data, kickstarting its digital transformation.
Going into the project, CTG understood that the new system would have to accommodate the needs of stakeholders at every stage of the tracking workflow, including employees with a wide range of skill sets and responsibilities. After performing stakeholder interviews, CTG chose to use the Nintex Workflow and Forms software, which blends ease of use with customizable functionality, to anchor workflow automation. Integrating Nintex with Microsoft 365 gave the environmental team a robust platform for digital transformation, allowing for visualizing data, producing accurate, timely reports, and performing analytics and business intelligence activities.
After migrating the company’s data from Word documents and Excel spreadsheets to the new digital solution, CTG created a number of automated triggers and Nintex workflows to enable a more efficient tracking and reporting process. First, the system alerts relevant personnel when a leak occurs, ensuring timely response and cleanup. A second workflow stream facilitates a root-cause assessment. For persistent leaks, the system initiates continuous improvement activities until teams come to a solution.
The environmental team now has a comprehensive digital solution that makes workflows across the entire tracking life cycle more efficient and effective. Moreover, with the ability to gather data on everything from an initial incident to the cleanup response, the company is better equipped to meet its environmental performance goals while ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance.
Whether building digital solutions to meet industry-specific goals, like tracking leaks, or accelerating large-scale digital transformation projects across organizations, CTG is ready to partner with companies and lead them to the forefront of innovation in the oil and gas industry.
