When do I usually get up in the morning? Well, I’m trying something new this week. I’m setting that alarm for 4:30 a.m. twice a week so I can get up and get a work out in before I start the day. With two little ones, this is the only time it’s quiet! Chances are you might get a different answer if you ask me the same question next week.

At home on a work day, I am making sure bottles and food are all set for my nine-month old and letting out and feeding our fur baby. On a non-work day, I hit the start button on the coffee maker, go through the same routine with the dog, and enjoy a few minutes of quiet before the children rise. I actually set the alarm with the intent to get up before they do so I can enjoy a few minutes to myself. At work, I sip coffee and check emails while catching up with my team.

I am most productive in the morning, so at home most “projects” are tackled then. I would say a successful project these days is making it through a pile of laundry or cleaning a bathroom.

When I get home from work, it’s chaos the minute I walk in the house! But a good kind of chaos. Dinner and cleaning up are split between the hubby and me. While one is getting dinner ready, usually my hubby, I play with the kids. While the other cleans up, usually me, he has his time with the kids. Once we finish that up, it’s bath and bedtime for the kids, and quiet time for mom and dad. Ah!

I don’t know if this is career advice, but a quote I like to think of when things get tough in life in general is, “When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on.” Life is not always butterflies and rainbows (as my daughter is learning as she gets to learn some of life’s tough lessons), but hanging on and keeping faith can help push that dark cloud aside.
